I am so excited to announce that I recently sold on of my cultivated dresses to “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”, the popular show by Amy Sherman-Palladino on Amazon Prime! I was so thrilled when they contacted me to purchase the dress as I had already seen the pilot episode. I immediately fell in love with the fashion and characters. To me, this era personifies the 50’s into the 60’s style. We were exiting the princess style dresses made ever so popular by Christian Dior’s “New Look” of 1947 and entering into a new beatnik era of fashion which still included this “Stepford Wives” look but started relaxing into it’s own unique style. It’s more relaxed and ready to wear style of the time gave women a much needed break from the tight corsets, stays and rib crushing undergarments and while still looking polished was the norm… They were wearing more relaxed garments to events and dinners. Don’t get me wrong, I love a gorgeous dress but having options in my wardrobe is always what I hope for.
Rachel Brosnahan plays “Midge” a woman who marries a man right after college and starts a family. Midge is uber supportive of her husbands dream of becoming a comedian until he bombs one night, comes home and blames her and then leaves. After her parents blame her too for the falling out she goes out and gets bombed and shows up on stage and kills it. The story goes on from there to create one of my favorite characters this season. I am happy to be a tiny little part of the show (even if it is just providing a dress) because I love strong female roles and this one hits it on the mark. So, if you haven’t seen the show make sure you go out and check it out. It’s on Amazon Prime:
I can only hope that Midge will be the one wearing the dress. Fingers crossed!
